Yuan Obmasca is a portrait and fashion photographer based in Manila, Philippines. Being inspired by vintage aesthetics, youth/pop culture, and fashion, he creates images that reflect his love for these in his film-like conceptual portraits and fashion photographs.
In childhood, creativity and art had always been an overall interest of his. What began as interest in traditional art like painting and drawing, had expanded into interest towards multimedia-centric arts such as graphic design, photography, and videography in his high school years. With this, he had gone on to take the Arts and Design track in his senior year of high school and had continued his creative pursuit into his college education, taking AB-Photography at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Yuan's works have been featured in the likes of publications such as "Dekunstrukt", his college's official photography portfolio.
Aesthetically, Yuan is drawn to the analog and to the vintage. From clothing and music of past decades to old formats of media, he has always seen this concept as his source of inspiration for the art he made and wll continue to make. Long before his passsion for photography had developed, fashion, editorial spreads, portraits from the early ninties to the early noughties, and film photography had been the pique of his visual interests. Simultaneously, he had also developed an interest in youth culture as a whole, with the internet and pop culture being an influence to his photographic style.
